Prof. Mbote has been a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for over 30 years.
She studied law at the university before heading to the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, the University of Zimbabwe before earning a master's degree from Stanford University in the United States.
In law she is more focused on environmental issues and human rights, where apart from being at the University of Nairobi she has taught at the University of Kansasa in the United States.
She has been a consultant to several international organizations including the World Bank, UNDP, the Norwegian Development Agency NORAD, and the Kenyan government, as well as the Founding Director of the International Environmental Law Research Center.
She has researched and published research on various legal issues and has been awarded by Harvard University in the United States and the University of Oslo in Norway.
She also nationally holds the status of EBS - Elder of the Burning Spear through the annual President Uhuru Kenyatta Award. Prof Kameri Mbote is the only woman at the University of Nairobi to get a Higher Doctorate Degree after writing a research article.
