Lesirma who is currently 76-year-old said it was his craving to secure his PhD which he had for seemingly forever longed for. The former Samburu West lawmaker added that the journey to his most recent scholarly accomplishment was difficult given his age and different obligations however he ensured he put in more energy. The government official noted one should cherish reading books and exercise a serious level of discipline to prevail in academics.
"It is a journey, education is a continuous process and one has to be interested in reading, you must be disciplined," he advised.
Lesirma bagged his first university degree in 1972 from Makerere University in Uganda where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Social Science. After eight years, he returned to the lecture hall and followed it with a Diploma Human Resource from Kingston polytechnics. Between 2001 and 2003 he was a masters student at the United States International University (USIU). "I took my boon books and took a train to Makerere and did community development studies there and afterward I returned to UoN because I needed to keep going and effectively make a contribution to the communities in Kenya. I was personally inspired by other more established individuals in 1993 and 2002. I likewise want to make a contribution, my study is on water basins," he added.
As a MP, Lesirma represented Samburu West for two terms on KANU and the Orange Democratic Movement from 2002 to 2013. During his tenure as a legislator and an assistant minister for Internal Security and Provincial Administration, he made 1354 parliamentary appearances indicated by Mzalendo. In 2017, he lost the gubernatorial election to Governor Moses Lenolkulal.
