(Opinion) CBA: Will Teachers Be Forced To Go For TPD In Selected Universities?

It has emerged that the Unions of Kenyan teachers signed a deal with TSC that will not provide any salary increment in the next four years. A thing that has sparked alot of reactions from Kenyans. Moreover, teachers will be forced to go for Teachers Professional Development program at the TSC contracted universities.

This deal was signed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers and Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers.

This implies that they will be forced to go without salary increment. However, these teachers will be guaranteed increased maternity and paternity leave days. According to the CBA, only those in hardship areas will get promotions.

This deal now gives the TSC the opportunity to roll out the training programme and implement career progression guidelines, performance contracting.

TSC announced that it will contract, Kenyatta University, Riara University, Kenya Education Management Institute and Mount Kenya will be offering this course.

This means that the employer is now free to sign a contract with these universities to offer the Teacher Professional Development program, TPD. Remember that it was initially opposed by Knut under Wilson Sossion.
