The president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta had given an order that all schools should resume as per the academic calendar. This therefore implies that all primary and secondary and tertiary institutions are subjected to adhere to Professor George Magoha's (education cabinet secretary) directive that resumption of schools should begin on Monday 10th, next week. However, the president made it clear that in case the rates of infections spike, then he'll be forced to escalate restrictions including closure of schools because his work is to protect lives.
Thus, the positivity rates are closely monitored to ensure that any move that is made does not cause more problems. Contrary to what may result to closure of schools, Dr Mutahi Kagwe has announced that the positivity rates reduced drastically from 12.8% up to 8.3%. Besides, the ministry of health is closing near completion of the exercise of vaccinating the population of all teachers across the country.
As revealed, one hundred and thirty seven thousand, five hundred and eighty one more teachers were successfully vaccinated over the past 24 hours. This is indeed a good progress as the country is looking forward to regain its initial state. With this news, schools may now open with ease next week as Covid 19 seems to be contained day by day. Thus, the lower the positivity rates, the lesser the rates of infections and hence, a safe country.
Below is the statement of the health cabinet secretary during today's Covid 19 updates.
