Kericho county popular MCA Paul Chirchir alias Tarimbo has been cornered with the new regulation from IEBC. The regulation requires aspirants in all positions in 2022 must have a minimum of Bachelors degree.
The MCA who holds a diploma might be locked out coming elections. He has since posted a picture of himself in a library. He says that he feels bad that Kericho voters were mocking him for his education.
In his statement, the representative says that knowledge is power and even if he is not elected he will study hard. His bid to get a degree might not come to pass as the time has lapsed .
"Knowledge is Power, Power provides Information; Information leads to Education, Education breeds Wisdom; Wisdom is Liberation.Nasoma sana kwa bidii, when I hear people mocking me and I'm seriously studying, it hurts me very much. Otherwise, more Knowledge is more Powe,r my guys," he said
The law has caused a lot of controversy with members of parliament who don't meet the qualifications coming out strongly to oppose the same. Most of those affected are ward representatives, most of whom are from four leavers.
The same was petitioned today in the national assembly and many legislators led by former majority leader Aden Duale supported the same saying that the work required of the MPs needs basic education.
