Relief To Cane Farmers As Ruto Captures Permanent Solutions In His Manifesto

It is a major relief to sugarcane farmers across the country after Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate integrated their demands in his manifesto.

Deputy President William Ruto presents Kenya Kwanza Manifesto, source files.

Speaking during the official Manifesto unveiling ceremony, Ruto proposed three steps he will use to rejuvenate the dying sugar sector in the country.

First, he has assured farmers that he will write off all existing debts in the government owned sugar factories.

He will then use government money to buy modern equipment for sugar factories so that they can compete with modern global technology in terms of sugar production.

Furthermore, he has planned to award KSH 3B as a starting capital to sugar factories after setting up of the new firms so that they can start accumulating profit.

He added that his administration will also enhance research in order to introduce fast growing can varieties and sugarcane value chain so that more income can be obtained from cane.

Since Mumias and Nzoia sugar companies are no longer making money, he assured farmers of Western Kenya that they will commence as completely new factories.

"This is the only sure way of bringing the sugar economy back to life," he said.
