Ruto Defends The Decision To Bring GMOs

The importation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has been defended by President William Ruto.

To support his argument, Ruto revealed that all of the goods that the nation has been importing include GMO components but they are within the 1% threshold by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

Hiyo less than one percent tunalipa 30 to 40 percent, more so kuliko kusumbuana na percent ndiyo ulipe gharama nyingi si hiyo ni kukosa mpango? He posed. “Ukiambiwa iko less than one percent hiyo ni kusema nini, si ni kusema tu ni GMO?”

Added he, “The lives of the people who elected me cannot be jeopardized. I work in science, and we are all in agreement that GMOs have no negative impact,” he explained.

Ruto was speaking on Wednesday night at the Statehouse during a live media interview.

The president claimed that those opposed to importing the foodstuffs are people who want to derail his efforts to address the nation’s food insecurity.

He continued,” This is propaganda spread by those who oppose our efforts to find a solution to this issue.”

He claimed that even though the USA and all of South Africa use GMO products, there are no known repercussions on the lives of their citizens.

Lazima tuambiane ukweli,....umesikia mtu amemea mapembe, amemea miguu ama ndevu kule South Africa kwa sababu ya kukula GMO? He said, “Mimi mwenyewe nimekula chakula ya GMO, lazima tuambiane ukweli.”
