Good News To Kenyans As A Tanzanian Gas Company Plans To Sell Gas Cylinders In Kenya At This Cost

As per now, Kenyans refill their cooking gas at Kshs 1,650 shillings for a 6kg gas cylinder and at Kshs 3,580 for a 13kg gas cylinder since the rise about a year ago. Additionally, a 6kg gas cylinder goes at a price of Kshs 4,350 shillings and at Kshs 8,150 but these prices may vary depending on the gas brand and the place you are.

Well, Kenyans may see these prices of buying and refilling of gas cookers drop after a Tanzanian gas company got licensed to sell it's products in Kenya. According to the reports shared by, Tanzania company identified as Taifa gas get has been licensed by the ministry of energy and petroleum in Kenya to sell it's products in the territory breaking the monopoly of K-gas and Hashi.

As the reports have it, Taifa gas chief executive officer disclosed that they will retail the 6Kg cylinder at a cost of Kshs 1200 shillings and for refilling it at Kshs 800 shillings. This will bring a big difference between the current retail and refilling prices by almost 45% and 50% respectfully. "That is the East African community we want," Patrick Githiri. "What kills Kenyan business is high taxes," Sylvester Onyango.

On the other side, Kenyans have a reason to smile after the government removed tax on importing maize which will see the price of Unga go down. This comes after Agriculture CS Peter Munya announced that Kenya will now import maize without tax.
