Deputy President Dr William Samoei Ruto on Monday chaired the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).
In attendance were nine Governors including the current Chairperson of the Council of Governors, Martin Wambora.
Also in attendance was Devolution CS Charles Keter, Dr. Julius Muia (PS Treasury) and Julius Korir (PS Devolution).
The Comptroller of Budget Dr. Margaret Nyakango and the Chairperson Commission for Revenue Allocation Dr. Jane Kiringai were also present.
Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council is one of the most critical Government organs charged with budgetary and fiscal planning and allocation and is charged with charting post Covid-19 economic recovery strategies.
The DP last chaired a similar meeting on February 10th this year and among other things it was resolved that County Governments be allocated an additional KES 53.5 billion in the 2021/2022 Financial Year.
Dr. Ruto has been chairing this important economic committee for the last 8 years but he never broached the unique concepts he now refers to as "bottom up" solutions to the economy.
The Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council deals directly with money intended to go down to the basic County units where Mama Mboga and Bodaboda riders exist.
The DP is very vocal about uplifting Mama Mboga in public rallies but it so happens he has been sitting on the opportunity to do so for 8 solid years.
Other Governors present were Josephat Nanok, Stanley Kiptis, Nderitu Mureithi and Paul Chepkwony. Also present were Peter Anyan'g Nyon'go, Jackson Mandagor, Ann Mumbi Waiguru and Hillary Barchok.
