Another Tanzanian Billionaire Dies After Short Illness

A prominent businessman in Arusha Tanzania has today passed away. William Mollel who is a tycoon in the hotel industry passed away after a short illness.

Speaking to the media after his death, the businessman's nephew, Lemburis Sirikwa said Mollel died yesterday.

"It is true that Mollel, who is my sister's child, died yesterday after a short illness and funeral arrangements are underway," he said.

He said Mollel, who used to run several businesses including running tourist hotels, such as Snowcrest Afariki Hotel, has left behind three children.

Mollel's death comes just about two months since the death of Jacob Ombay, another billionaire in the hotel industry who owned eight tourist hotels.

 Ombay owned Bougainvillea safari lodge, country lodge karatu, Ngorongoro coffee lodge, Lake Eyasi safari lodge, Sangaiwe tented lodge, Thorn tree camp, Hippo Traill camp.

The executive secretary of the Tanzania Tourism Agents Association (TATO) Sirili Akko said the deaths of the businessmen are a blow to the tourism industry.
