Hottensia Wambui, the lady who wasted her mother's two million Kenyan shillings savings spoke about the incident for the first time.
Speaking in an interview with Tuko's Kingori Wangechi, Hottensia revealed that she was introduced into forex trading by her boyfriend. He convinced her that the money would multiply by the time her mother got back to the country from Saudi Arabia where she had worked for 9 years.
When Hotensia realized that she was losing huge amounts through the trading, she decided to buy a car on loan with the remaining 500,000 Kenyan shillings and pay the balance in monthly instalments of 68,000 Kenyan shillings.
She gave the car to a friend to use as a taxi but it only generated 10,000 thus prompting the company to reposess it.
When her mother landed back to the country, she found her account with only 417 Kenyan shillings.
She has been heartbroken since then and cries every day. At the moment, they can't even afford food.
Hotensia now plans to refund the money by going to work in Saudi Arabia where she will be sending her whole salary to her mother so that she can pay school fees for her younger brother.
