Meru Governor Kiraitu Wins Hearts of Meru People after Making This Noble Announcement

Kaguru Agricultural Training Center (Kaguru ATC) which was opened in 1961 has been a sleeping giant which has not achieved the objective of the founding vision, to train Meru farmers on best practices, technologies and methods of farming, the same way Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUA) does but right here in Meru, to help increase food and household incomes.

In ongoing efforts to change this trend, Governor Kiraitu Murungi has this afternoon in line with The Kaguru Agricultural Training Center Act, 2019 of the County Assembly, unveiled the Kaguru ATC Board of Directors which was vetted by the Assembly, and will now take over operations of the Center.

The Board will be chaired by renowned Professor of agriculture, Prof. Kaburu M’Turibu and comprise members namely, Center Principal Alex Wanjala, renowned farmer from Igembe Elizabeth Kanini, Chief Officer for Finance Chabari Kabii and Chief Officer for Agriculture, Crops Division Dionisia Ntueruaki.

The Board is charged with revitalizing the ATC by injecting new ways of doing things such as establishing a proper training course for farmers from demonstration, harvest to storage and marketing, as well as developing new products to make the Center financially independent through creation of new revenue generating streams.

The Board will also advise and work with the Agriculture Department to improve on extension services as well as full utilization of the new 1,000 capacity training hall at the ATC constructed by Governor Kiraitu to train farmers so that the County can leverage on and attain full benefits of various ongoing revolutionary agriculture programs the Governor has brought to Meru such as NARIGP, ABDP and KOPIA, among others.
