Three Italian companies implicated in the Sh63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scam say that power conflicts between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto resulted in the dams' unlawful cancellation.
The three Italian companies Cooperativa Muratori & Cementisti -CMC Di Ravenna Societa Cooperativa, Itinera S.P.A, and CMC Di Ravanna- Itinera JV S.C.P.A argues that the tender for the building of the two dams was canceled to derail Dr. Ruto's presidential bid in the 2022 general elections.
According to press sources, Mr. Ruto has been a vociferous proponent of the initiatives since they will assist residents in his neighborhood.
The prosecution has withdrawn 18 Italian business owners from the indictment and plans to prosecute them separately.
According to press sources, the Italian enterprises can corroborate that they were victims of a political feud between President Kenyatta and Dr. Ruto.
According to the Italian corporations, investigations into several potential illegalities in connection with the projects did not begin until 2019, two years after the contracts were signed.
They claimed that they were not involved in any wrongdoing and that all they did was tender for the two contracts per the KVDA's bidding guidelines.
