The name Jua Kali was derived from it’s word where the operators work in scotching sunlight
The sector is one of the largest employer and it has contributed a lot of money to kenyan economy.
“I would like the government to invent another name for Jua Kali the name sounds degrading and the
sector has played a key role in employing our youths and contributing to kenyan economy”said
Governor Jackson Mandago.
According to governor Mandago the Jua Kali name sounds degrading despite playing a key role in
contributing to kenyan economy.
Speaking in Eldoret the governor noted that the sector helps several youths to earn skills
kenyans youths have been earning living through the sector as they are self employers who ventures into
the business. .
The governor further pointed that the county has sponsored several youths to persue various artisan
courses in various Polytechnics including Eldoret National Polytechnic.
The Polytechnic is one of the national Polytechnic in Uasin-Gishu county that has
population of approximately 15,000 students and it has been admitting students from various counties.
