My government is anchored on the principal of accountability and transparency.
Following the market elections held in Gakoromone on 5th October, 2022, my Director for Trade, Ms Kagwiria Murega, today, gave an extensive report on the event.
On the violence witnessed in the fresh produce sector, Ms Kagwiria noted that the department had done thorough investigations to identify the cause and have put necessary measures in place to avoid such an occurrence in the future.
Further, the Director clarified that a new transparent election process was initiated by first issuing a notice to register all the traders in the sector. After registration, another notice was issued for the the aspirants to apply after which vetting was to be done. She clarified that the vetting process has been completed and only three aspirants have been left out as their names are not included in the members list.
The elections for this sector will be held on 25th January, 2023, which will be preceded by a 7-day election notice that will be issued tomorrow, 13th January, 2023. The elections will be conducted in a transparent manner to ensure peaceful elections". Said Hon. Kawira Mwangaza Meru governor.
