Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi has expressed his dissatisfaction with the new petroleum rates set by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
According to the ANC leader the set rates are unreasonable and exorbitant plotted to frustrate the local Mwananchi and businesses by increasing the production and transportation costs.
He stated that it was unacceptable for petrol to retail at 121.81 a litre while the landing price is as low as 49.84.Hw made a proposal that the EPRA should consider;
1. Revise the formula used in pricing fuel.
2. Reviews the tax regime on fuel products to avoid unsustainable current tax equivalent to 100%
3. Reform the electricity form structure to include more transparency in determination of cost and overall efficiency.
4. Review and reform our energy policy creating a plan anchored on the resources available to the government and leveraging creativity and innovation that is abundant within the energy sector.
These follows after EPRA announced the high prices of fuel in the country. Musalia Mudavadi is among the leaders eyeing for the 2022 presidential seat after the fallout of their Nasa coalition.
