Even after the government rendered persistent undertakings by borrowing loans to link the void against covid-19, most of these funds are subjected to severe misusage by our county bosses. According to the report by the auditor general, Meru and Bungoma have been red-flagged for misusing covid-19 funds meant for combatting the pandemic.
The two counties have not only deflected the funds from its core business but has also stemmed up lack of accountability in the use of the funds. Bungoma county has swayed the covid-19 funds into conducting training yet no clarity even in the usage of the money shifted to training. According to the report from the auditor general, the county doesn't even provide a clarification and documentation to show how that money was utilized in training.
Meru county on the other hand has extensively mangled the funds by embarking on financing different superfluous projects hence transgressing the Public Procurement and Disposal Act. The country has been arraigned of blindly purchasing covid 19 items.Even without performing market survey, the county spent over 10million scorning procurement laws. The country has inaugurated the construction of Egoji Isolation Centre a project worth 20million.
