Netizens Reacts After Githeri Man's Story on his Current Status Resurfaced Online

A one time celebrity who caught the attention of the President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2017 general election, award of the Head of State Commendation (HSC) in 2017 current situation resurfaced online. Three years after gaining national fame and limelight, Martin Kamontho, 44, has been living a squalid conditions.

Kamontho popularly known as Githeri man after he was his photo went viral queuing to vote while eating his takeaway githeri in a polythene bag back in 2017. The photo made him a "magnet" attracting various corporates who wanted to use his "big name" in marketing their products.

However, Kamontho is cursing his Ksh 10 githeri which exposed him to the world. He stays in Saba-Saba slums in Kayole living in single room which cannot accommodate a family. Although his companion is entirely his hat, Githeri man decries the old memories when he was a no man. Now he carries a big title with nothing to show off.

According to information covered by Bizna news on their Facebook news platform , the three by four room has worn out sofas, old wooden table and a cupboard which he places his radio. The room wall is reported to have been decorated with polyester material with plastic floor carpet. Bedsheet acts as his wall to his bedroom.

Speaking to Bizna news, Kamontho said, "this is where I have lived for a decade, people think I'm rich." When he was invited to Statehouse, a place where few Kenyans have set there foot at, Kamontho came home with a cool Ksh 100,000. He dressed in a navy blue suit courtesy of the President. The president offered to dress him every August until 2022.
