Kenya is steadily forming the foundation of becoming an industrialised nation. This is in line in with advancing the Government's manufacturing pillar of the Big 4 Agenda.Today, Monday 26th April 2021, H E President Uhuru Kenyatta opened a nano technology and semiconductor manufacturing facility at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Nyeri County. The facility was established by Semiconductor Technologies Limited (STL) on part of the 177-acre Dedan Kimathi University of Technology's Science and Technology Park (DeST-Park) on a Private-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
The company, which is the only one of its kind on the African soil specialises in nano technology, a field of research and innovation concerned with building 'things'- generally, materials and devices - on the scale of atoms and molecules.
It produces integrated circuits, sensors and related products for the global market. Such products are used in the manufacturing of electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, televisions and laptop computers. They are also used in medicine, industrial and energy sectors. They have a very high global demand. It is important to note that our own young Kenyan scientists are making them, in our own Country, in our own facilities, for the world market. Real jobs and innovative opportunities are being created for our youth, for the world market.
