Gladys Boss Shollei Daily Farm

The former Chief Registrar at the Judiciary has taken daily farming to a storm at Uasin Gishu. Gladys keeps various breeds of cattle which include Friesian, Holsteins, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss. Her cows are well kept in a clean structure and feed well to improve their milk production. Gladys said if the cows are not kept in a clean structure nor feed well the cows get stressed and their milk production goes down.

Gladys cows are grouped into cubicles from the youngest to the expectant ones in order to monitor the lactation and feeding cycle of each. The calves are also separated to ensure there are not used too much to the mother but it is also important for them to suckle in order for them to get enough colostrum which boosts their immunity.

Gladys has installed a synchronized mobile application that helps her monitor the feeding and milk production of each cow even without being there. Gladys has employed professionals who ensure the farm is well managed. Winnie Chebii, an animal health officer is one of them who always checks the performance of the daily unit. Winnie said for calves to grow well and healthy they should first be feed with a daily meal for one month and later grass-like Boma Rhodes in small portions. For milk production to increase just follow those key points discussed in this article.
