A multi-sectoral approach involving the National and County Governments,World Vision as wellLOKADO organization will be used to stem tsetse fly infestation in Turkana West.
Stakeholders today met in Lodwar to plan implementation of the TseTse fly management and roll out of the Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council(KENTTEC)recommendations in the grazing areas of Turkana West Sub-County.
In his remarks,County Chief Officer for Pastoral Economy and Fisheries Abdullahi Yusuf said that the Turkana was vulnerable to both human and Transboundary Animal Diseases due to its location to three international borders.
He assured of County Government commitment to partner with stakeholders on assessment and control measures to minimize effects of the Tsetse fly invasion to herders and their livestock in Turkana.
Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council(KENTTEC) Chief Executive Officer Pamela Olet called for alert warning of negative impacts of Tsetse fly to source of livelihoods to hundreds of households in Turkana and neighboring regions.
On his part,County Director for Veterinary Services Benson Longor said that community disease reporters and natural resources management committee will highly be involved in decision making and control measures to find a long lasting solution to the menace.
