Maize flour prices in the country have today increased by more than thirty Kenyan shilling meaning that prices of maize flour in the country will be at two hundred and thirty shillings.Traders have said that this rise in the prices of maize flour in the country has been caused by shortage of maize supply.
The traders have said that climatic changes have made it almost impossible for farmers to plant any maize therefore reducing their supply of maize to produce the flour. They have said that the government stores also have very limited maize to fully satisfy the country without having to increase the prices.
Trade cabinet secretary Mr Moses Kuria also told farmers to be selling their maize directly to retailers since the government was not in a position to buy their maize due to lack of funds. This will therefore mean that Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets so as to afford maize flour.
