Born in 1964 to then a 17-year-old mother, Jacklyn Gise, Jeff Bezos is a distinguished American entrepreneur and arguably the richest person in the world. With an incredible net worth of about 205 billion dollars as of 2021 according to Forbes Magazine, Bezos is the founder and CEO of Amazon. The American entrepreneur has some secrets that have made him hugely successful. In this article, I bring to you 4 secrets that have made Jeff Bezos successful.
1) Be Curious
As a young boy, Bezos had experimented with so many things. For instance, he imagined changing a home garage into a laboratory and often displayed technological proficiency. Curiosity is one of the major attributes that makes people succeed. You must search, look and research.
2) Start Working As Early As Possible
While Bezos was in high school, he started working at McDonald as a cook and earned 2.6 dollars per hour. Working early in life does not only give you cash but it also teaches you how to handle money. If you are a young person, stop seeing work as a punishment, rather see it as an opportunity to learn about money and life.
3) See The Invisible
Bezos resigned from his job in 1993 and started an online bookshop in a home garage which later transitioned into Amazon we know today, the world’s biggest e-commerce company. At the time he started his online company in 1994, only 12 million people in the world were accessing the internet. But as of now, over 3 billion persons are accessing it.
4) Prepare For The Public Attacks
In 2015, the New York Times newspaper described Bezos as a brilliant but mysterious corporate titan. In 2018, Donald Trump accused Amazon and Bezos in particular of tax avoidance and anti-competitive business practices. Due to these negative comments by the then U.S president, Amazon’s sales fell by 9%. Each time the American entrepreneur has been attacked publicly, he has figured out how to recover from it. The more successful you become, the more criticism you will receive from the public. To be hugely successful, learn how to manage criticism.
