Reprieve To Broke County Governments As Treasury Releases Billions Of Money To Them

Broke county governments has today recieved good news from the treasury over the long awaited funds to help them run the devolved units. According to the press released jointly by the National Treasury and the council of governors, counties will receive a total of 289.6 billion as equitable share for the financial year 2020/21

The counties will also receive a total of 26.9 billion Shillings which was the outstanding balance for the month of June 2020/21, this makes a total of 316.5 billion allocated to county governments in division of revenue act, 2020. In addition to these, the county governments will receive conditional grants amounting to 28.5 billion.

According to the press released the county governments will prioritize settling the pending bills that has crippled operations in the devolved units.

Counties have been threatening to shut down operations over delayed funds, however, the treasury had promised to release the funds as soon as it was possible.
