This is under the Crop Diversification Program launched in 2018 by H. E Governor Lee Kinyanjui in a bid to help increase forest cover as well as provide meaningful employment and increased income to communities across the County.
Yesterday over 9,800 seedlings have been distributed in Kiptororo, Turi and Kihingo wards.
Overseeing the distribution today of more than 6,600 seedlings in Kiptororo ward, Kuresoi North, was Agriculture Chief Officer Mr. Kibet Maina.
To increase production in the avocado sector, CO Kibet urged the farmers to set up fruit nurseries to bridge gaps in production.
He added that, the County provides free training to farmers interested in setting up tree nurseries across the County.
In addition to that, the county has recorded success in the sale of mature fruits to various processors earning farmers between Ksh. 80-120 per kilogram which has helped improve the income of beneficiaries of the Crop Diversification Program.
