It was an engaging day for the newly appointed agricultural cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi as he took his first tour to Transzoia county two days after taking the oath of office. Transzoia county deputy governor Philomena Kapkory accompanied him during the time.
The aim of the visit was a fact-finding mission on critical issues ailing the Transzoia county farmers ranging from tea, maize, and coffee farming. During the visit, he announced that his agriculture ministry will soon be developing an agricultural master plan that will be reflected across all the counties. This will be done to try and comprehend the favorable crops that can be effectively produced within each region. All this will be undertaken in conjunction with the county governments whereby the farmers will get a better chance to be advised accordingly on how and what to plant.
Speaking in the same meeting, the Tranzoia county deputy governor retaliated on how they will utilize various natural resources in the county to try and ensure livelihoods are improved by maintaining a surplus food production pattern.
Major concerns ailing farmers across the country include the high cost of farm inputs ranging from fertilizer to seedlings. Low rainfall has also been a high contributor to low yields. The CS however promised to address all these issues and come up with a long-term solution.
