WARNING; M-Pesa operators in Kajiado agonize over counterfeit Sh1,000 notes

Last week, a syndicate publishing the fraud money is announced to have started in Kitengela, Kajiado and Ilbisil towns targeting ignorant residents.

Small-scale merchants, cowboys and those operating M-Pesa marts have been the susceptible victims of the counterfeiters distributing Sh1,000 notes.

Nattily dressed dealers are said to have been enrolled to distribute the money in what appears to be a major counterfeit money fraud.

A Kitengela town-based M-Pesa mart operator said that on Tuesday, she was conned ksh. 50,000 by the counterfeiters last weekend.

She explained the money seemed genuine but she realised the ksh. 1,000 notes were bogus when she went to put the money in a bank on Monday.

Additional evidence demonstrates a likelihood of the so-called ‘wash-wash’ syndicate notorious for publishing and disseminating counterfeit money having tossed tent in Kitengela and Mlolongo towns.

In Kajiado and Ilbisil town, the cartel is aiming cowboys who have been strike by the drought.
