The Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru today empowered farmers through giving them funds to increase their farm produce. She went on to say that it was not good that the country was importing some farm and animal produce that if farmers are empowered, they could meet the demand.
The Governor proceeded to say that her government was committed in uplifting the lives of thousands of farmers in her county through availing of much needed funds. She added that her critics thought that it was only politics she was doing but as a responsible leader, that was not what was in her heart.
She told the farmers in the meeting that it was very possible to deny other countries business by simply increasing the scale of production of some products. The Governor cited an example of increasing egg production in the area and by doing so, a country like Uganda was going to be forced to cut on its egg supply to Kenya.
She finally said that her government was going to ensure that the cost of farming was significantly brought down so that the farmers compete with other other farmers in the neighbouring countries.
