It has emerged that farmers have rejected the cheap fertilizer that William Ruto's government was offering to them. This is a big blow handed to Kenya Kwanza government since majority of Kenyans have rejected this move that was aimed to assist them in this tough times.
As reported by Standard media, farmers, especially from Nakuru county have shown lack of interest on the availability of fertilizers, with majority arguing that they had already purchased the fertilizers at the high price of 6500.
The cheap fertilizer was released by deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua and is meant to assist Kenyans from the South Rift, Northern, Nairobi, Eastern and Coast Region ahead of short rains expected from October to December. In the new prices, a 50 kg bag of DAP fertilizer will now retail at Sh3,500, CAN at Sh2,875, UREA at Sh3,500, NPK at Sh3,275, MOP at Sh1,775 and Sulphate of Ammonia at Sh2,220.
The cheap fertilizer is meant to increase produce so that the cost of food can come down. However, farmers says that they don't need it since they have already planted and are nearing the harvesting period. They are asking the government to buy produce for them with the price they had used to plant.
