3 Best Counties with the Fastest Growth in Economic Development

In terms of the speed at which wealth was created nationwide between 2013 and 2020, Nyandarua, Meru, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties were ranked as the leaders.

Nyandarua produced money more quickly than any of the other 47 counties, according to the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), in its most recent publication of the Kenya County Fact Sheets.

With a constant rise from 1.03 percent in 2013 to 1.52 percent in 2020, Nyandarua's contribution to the nation's Gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.49 percent point.

Nyandarua County, overseen by Governor Francis Kimemia, came in first place in the Mt. Kenya & Aberdare Regional Economic Block and comprises five constituencies and twenty-five wards.

Meru County came in second, increasing its GDP contribution from 0.76 percent in 2013 to 1.18 percent in 2020, a 0.45 percentage point trajectory increase. Elgeyo Marakwet came in third, increasing its GDP contribution from 0.76 percent in 2013 to 1.18 percent in 2020.

Despite a fall in GDP contribution from 27.55 to 26.99 percent, Nairobi, led by Governor Ann Kananu, has maintained its top spot in GDP contribution during the years since the start of devolution in 2010. About one-third of Kenya's GDP comes from the county.

According to CRA, the major industries in Nairobi and Mombasa, the country's two largest cities, contributed 4.72 percent to the national pie.

The highest decrease was seen in Mombasa, where the percentage fell from 5.55 in 2013 to 4.72 in 2020. Additionally, Machakos county's contribution decreased from 3.89 to 3.17 percent in 2020.Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Mombasa, and Meru, which together accounted for 46.9% of the wealth generated by all 47 counties and 60% of the nation's wealth, are listed in the CRA information sheet.

Only 4.6% came from the poor counties designated as Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) counties. Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, Lamu, and Wajir are some of these counties.

Livestock raising is these counties' primary economic activity. According to the CRA fact sheet study, the production of livestock is insignificant in comparison to other industries like manufacturing.

The commission anticipates that decision-makers will utilize these fact sheets to develop policies. More crucially, the commission wants people to use the third country fact sheet edition.
