This is after President William Ruto's government announced the release of 8.6 billion for the program amid worries and rumours among Kenyans with sime arguing that the president had abolished the program.

Judy Tuda, the director of Social Assistance under the ministry of Labour and social protection announced that the money released will cover the month of July-August, September-October 2022 cycles. The disbursement of the funds will commence on the 9th of January 2023 with individuals expected to recieve 8000.

"This payment is set to commence in Monday, 9 January 2023 with each beneficiary receiving 8000" read part of the statement.

The cash will be transferred to 1,072,226 individuals who are under the program.

Government further announced that the payment will be inclusive of 8.4 million 400,500 complimentary top ups to 4549 beneficiaries of the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education scheme designed to boost the nutritional status of children in their first 1000 days of life.

The payment will only be made to the beneficiaries who are currently on the payroll and the payment will be through contracted Payment Service providers.

The announcement comes after the opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party demanded that the money be released immediately to the beneficiaries who had waited for six months. Azimio at the same time has vowed to push for the increament of the payment from the current 2000 per month to 4000 month arguing that whatever the beneficiaries are being given is very little.
