In light of David Ndii's statement, it's important to remember that bringing down the cost of production is not the same as reducing the tariffs associated with it. Heavy investments are required to bring down tariffs, and those are long-term commitments that can't be changed in the near future.
As Kenyans, it's vital to understand what is being said and to distinguish between costs and tariffs in order to ensure we can make informed decisions about energy and other costs.
According to David Ndii, cheap power may seem attractive in the short term, but the lack of continuous electricity and inability to use it 24/7 could prove costly in the long run. Costly power on the other hand, offers stability and security, but requires an initial higher cost of investment.
Ultimately, the decision of what kind of power to use is up to us, but we must consider the implications of each choice. Our goal should be to choose an option that maximizes value, convenience and security in the long-term.
