Roads are very essential for the economic development for both the County and the Nation at large. This is because, most of the economic activities such as agriculture and businesses largely depends on good roads to be successful.
For instance, agricultural products that are harvested should be availed in the market at the right time to enable them fetch higher prices in the market. On the other hand, most of the factories and industries also require good roads for efficient movement of raw materials as well as finished products.
In most parts of the country, many roads tends to be impassable during rainy seasons. This is because of the poor conditions of the roads.
Surprisingly, Gem Sub County in Siaya County has no such roads today. All the roads in this area are all tarmac making the area very accessible. The remoteness of this area as it used to be back there is a story today.
This is attributed to the good leadership of the former area member of parliament Jakoyo Midiwo who invested alot in ensuring that all the corners are very accessible. Furthermore, Gem is one area which is known for producing the largest number of professors in this Nation.
