The county is known as Machakos county which was formed through devolution in 2013 given code 016.The capital city of the county is Machakos town which serves as county headquarters.The county is led by a very aggressive governor Dr.Alfred Mutua.The county borders Nairobi and Kiambu counties to the west, Embu to the north, Kitui to the east, Makueni to the south,Kajiado to the south west, and Muranga and Kirinyaga to the north .The county covers 6,043 kilometers square of land. According to population census 2019,it has a population of 1,421,932 people.
Machakos county experience a myrid of development planning in the following sectors; housing, industrialization, logistics, education,trade and commerce,logistics and real estate management.This can be seen from the industries along Mombasa road in Athi River,Mlolongo and Syokimau.The county has reserved land specifically for development .
The Mavoko sub county which involves Syokimau, Mlolongo and the famous Athi River towns are known to be the most significant areas for development of housing,business such as malls among others.
