KRA Freezes UoN and KU Bank Accounts Over Unpaid Taxes

According to The Star headline brief, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has frozen bank accounts of two leading Universities in what now appears to threaten and cripple higher education in Kenya.

The taxman has attached accounts belonging to the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University in a bid to recover billions by the institutions in unremitted taxes.

The two universities are yet to remit statutory deductions pay as you earn (PAYE) running into billions of shillings.

It is said that the debts have accumulated for years and the two universities never bothered to clear them. And According to the report KRA raided UoN’s bank accounts and empty almost Sh450 million, putting the University’s education program in jeopardy.
