Safaricom has made major changes on its board after announcing the appointment of a new member which was approved by the Board of Directors yesterday 5th January, 2023.
The new board changes as published in the Daily Nation, has seen the appointment of Adil Arshed Khawaja, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya as a director of the board.Mr Khawaja who has over 30 years experience in his legal profession is recognised as a leading name in the Kenyan legal profession and has been globally recognised in various practice groups as one of the most sought-after lawyers in the country. He is currently serving as the managing partner at Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews
Mr Adil previously served as a director of Kenya Commercial Bank Group where he got to work as the first chairman of company.
The appointment puts him in a pole position to become the next board chairman if the firm decides to go for an outsider following the resignation of Mr John Ngumi who served for less than six months under the former President's regime.
Meanwhile, more than half of Safaricom’s executives have been reported to have quit the telco over the past two years, allowing the current CEO Peter Ndegwa to build his own team.
