Unions Officials Want Employees Who Were Implicated in Corruption Scandal Judged Immediately

Kenya medical, phamarcist and dentist union, KMPDU has criticised the ongoing restructuring of KEMSA which created the 'covid billionaires'. KEMSA came into the limelite when it awarded illegal tenders to few individuals that supplied PPEs and other covid equipments at an exerggerated price.

In a statement the KMPDU secretary said that the management that was involved should be probed.

“This includes but it is not limited to Ksh.419 million project funds that were not accounted for, Ksh. 76.5 million spent on the construction of a KEMSA warehouse at Embakasi, Ksh.63.6 million legal fees paid to private legal firms and Ksh.17.2 million paid as allowance to KEMSA’s members of the tender evaluation committee,” KPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atela said in a statement on Thursday.

Parliamentary Accounts Commette probed the matter and found out some two individuals were involved in the theft and gave recommendations on what should be done. The government on the other hand moved the KMSA chairman Kembi Gitura to Communications Authority and he has never been judged in court. The government since then has done nothing to recover back the taxpayers money that were stolen.
