Kenya Kwanza administration is proposing to double taxes on three commodities consumed in the country.
Kenyans who are burdened with the high cost of living will have to brace for tougher times this year since increase in taxes will force the price to go high.
Reliable sources indicate that the stamping excise taxes on Fruit juices will be hiked from current Ksh 0.6 to 2.23.
Excise stamp fees for cigarettes will double from Ksh 2.8 to 5.02.
Cosmetics will be most affected with a increase of 4 times as compared with the current taxes. Their excise stamps will increase from Ksh 0.6 to Ksh 2.5.
Bottled water have been shielded from the increase in taxes. It will be retained at Ksh 0.5.
As President William Ruto races to up increase in tax collection in five years to support the government’s fast-rising spending needs, including burgeoning annual debt servicing costs, this will continue to burden Kenyans.
