Vintage Eastland's Estate that has Lost its Glory

The East side of Nairobi city referred to as Eastland's houses Nairobi's biggest population residing in popular estates among them Mbotela, Bahati, Makadara, Buruburu, Umoja, Donholm all the way to Kayole, Embakasi, Utawala, count them. There are so many estates some stay uncelebrated.

Buruburu boarders Makadara and for a long time has been the heart of Eastland, as popularly known. Civil servants and business moguls preferred staying in the area and the neighbouring Umoja estates, among the oldest estates.

It is divided into Estates, initially determined by the expansion of the estate due to it's demand. Obviously among many other reasons water and security attracted residents to the area.

Emerging trends have however scared a number of potential tenants. Water has become a scarce commodity due to its ballooning demand. Taps currently don't experience 24 hour water output and some tenants have further been forced to seek alternative sources of water.

Talking security, areas around Mutindwa and deep in the estates has witnessed an increase of mugging and murder. Theft is on the rise and dwellers have been forced to reinforce their houses and stay vigilant.

What used to be a busy estate of Government vehicle sirens has been left to sirens of ambulances destined for the nearby metropolitan hospital.

The old prestigious Buruburu is gone.
