The core aim for writing this article is to create awareness and access to legal requirements mandatory for any investor before opening a business. The government of Kenya has moved to simplify business licenses in efforts to reduce poverty levels and create job opportunities in the country. Many local investors fail to follow this legalities and they play an essential part to the economy of the country. The following is complete procedure for all requirements for any business.

An investment certificate is applicable to all investors investing at least 1 million shillings and the business and activities related to it are legal and beneficiary. An investment registration is a must for all local investors. All businesses should register thee business name with register of company's as per investment promotion Act ( 2000).

Once a business has been registered other legal requirements which are essential include: A single business permit issued under Government Act( cap 65). It is renewed after every one from the local authorities. A single business permit is applicable to all kinds of businesses. The other one is the trade license still renewed after evey year. All types of business should apply it from the ministry of trade and industry. The next one I will talk about Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Personal Identification Number (PIN) . These two a paid for only once to the Kenya Revenue Authority. Last but not least is the National Social Security Fund( NSSF) and the National Hospital Insurance Fund ( NHIF). These are applicable to all businesses employing more than 5 workers. They are applied once from the respective ministries.
