What Nyeri businessmen want from Raila

Businessmen from Nyeri have voiced their expectations to ODM leader Raila Odinga ahead of his visit to the region this week.

On Monday, businessmen drawn from the county said they were looking forward to Raila’s trip, saying they were ready to give him their votes.

“Nyeri is for Raila. We are ready to vote him in,” tycoon Peter Kuguru said in an interview.

“We want the Raila presidency to continue the ongoing development of roads. We have already witnessed the construction of the Kenol-Marua road under the current government. Our appeal to Raila is to upgrade all connector roads and extend the road to Isiolo to join the Lapsset,” the businessman said.

Nyeri residents would also benefit from the construction of the Unjiru-Giaituu-Ragati road to tarmac grade to decongest the Karatina urban center, the business leaders added.

Once complete, the 84km Kenol-Murang’a highway will serve the counties of Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Embu and Machakos.

Users of the dual carriageway will have something other than Christmas to celebrate this December, when the highway is expected to be launched. Initially, the project, which is financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) was to be finalized by 2023.
