The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has now come out clean and declared a special government project at inter-ministerial team that is expected to carry out an audit and ensure urgent and rapid reforms have been done in the ailing power supplier.
The Cabinet Secretary of Interior Ministry Dr Fred Matiang’i is one of the members of the team that is expected to carry out the audit. The Kenya Power and Lighting Company's senior and board managers will also be involved in the audit. This process which will oversee reforms and recommendations by the task force implemented with immediate effect.
Additionally the Kenya Power and Lighting Company has been issued with directives to swiftly stop all the pending as well as any ongoing negotiations with the IPPs. (Independent Power Producers).
More details say that the Kenya Power and Lighting Company has also been directed to carry out a review of existing Power Purchasing Agreements in order to lower the cost of electricity that is procured by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company which would eventually lower the cost of power.
Turning to the power interruption updates KPLC has set a very long electricity outage on Friday, October 8, in the following parts of the country. Those living the named places below should prepare for the long power outage.
