The Price of 1 Kilogram of Mercury in Kenyan Shillings

The element Mercury (Hg) is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature and ambient pressure. Mercury is typically found in cinnabar ores, a granular reddish color deposit that is available around the globe. Mercury in raw form is gained through mining. Its liquidity at room temperature and its silver color are the reasons it is popularly known as “quicksilver.” In fact, the chemical symbol for mercury, Hg, comes from the Greek "hydrargyrum" meaning liquid silver.

The price of 1 kilogram of mercury ranges from 10,000 kenyan shillings to 25,000 kenyan shillings. This price varies because their are different types of Mercury. Though this maybe its price, their is a mercury which is rare to get. That is red mercury which costs 200,000 dollars per kilogram. This price in kenyan shillings is 20 million kenyan shillings.

Some of the advantages of mercury is that it is a good conductor of electricity hence used in switches and batteries. Besides, it is used to amalgamate gold and silver in small scale mining activities because it readily combines with other metals.
