Change Of Tune On New Gas Prices As Energy Plans To Block 16% VAT

The Energy Dealers Association (EDA) wants a court to block the 16 percent value-added tax on cooking gas that took effect this month.

EDA Secretary-General Kepher Odongo Friday filed a suit at the High Court through Okoth and Co. Advocates.

In 2016, Treasury waivered the 16% VAT on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) which made the cost of Gases drop. Yesterday, Your Favourite Tax-us Ranger, CS Ukur Yatani slapped LPG with a 14% VAT which means you are going to pay like Ksh. 300 more for a 13Kg Gas. 

VAT should be reduced on home energy efficiency projects and products using recycled materials to help boost a green recovery. "Kenya needs a tax system that is fit to help deliver its goal of cutting greenhouse gases to net-zero.
