A few months back, former councillors were promised that they will be awarded a one off payment for their work during their tenures.
The former councillors were the ones in charge of Ward Administration before the New Constitution scrapped that and introduced the Member of County Assembly position for the wards.
The former councillors were promised about 18 Billion shillings and it seems that they have a reason to smile since the money has been approved by The Treasury Department of the Government of Kenya
According to the report from the Treasury, the former Councillors will each receive a substantial amount of money for their time in service.
It is reported that a Councillor who served for four terms during those days, will receive a whopping 664,000 Kenya Shillings each.
The ones that served for more than four terms are only 328 people out of all the ones that will be compensated.
The rest who served for less than four terms, numbering 11,919 will each receive 200,000 Kenya shillings each.
The 2.6 Billion Kenya shillings that will be disbursed by the Treasury in the next financial year.
