85,000 Kenyans Risk CRB Listing and Penalties, HELB Warns

85,000 Kenya's risk being listed to the Credit Reference Bureau(CRB). This is according to the latest information from the Higher Education Loans Board(HELB).

The 85000 Kenya's have now been put on notice. Failure to honor the above notice will lead to listing on CRB.

Furthermore, a Ksh.5000 penalty will follow the loan defaulter monthly. This is according to HELB Act. Hence beneficiaries are urged to pay.

HELB chief executive officer, Charles Ringera noted that 9.5 Billion is the amount that had not been paid by the beneficiaries.

He also added that the Covid 19 pandemic had affected loan payment. However, he urges Kenyan to pull up their socks and pay to avoid future penalties.

However, this latest announcement sparked mixed reactions online.

Many urged HELB to have mercy and write off the loans. This is because of the prevailing economic conditions. Where most people are between a rock and a hard place. The are not only affected by the covid 19 pandemic but also undergoing pay cuts on salaries.
