Many Kenyans find it challenging to purchase products and services due to the country's rising cost of living, which has been happening for the past two years. For many Kenyans, the cost of basic necessities is unaffordable.
Kenyans have been paying zero Shillings for the past two years when transferring money from bank accounts to Mpesa and Airtel accounts. This came after the Central Bank of Kenya announced the modifications as a strategy to protect Kenyans from the negative impacts of the Covid-19 epidemic. Kenyans are taking advantage of zero-rated exchange rates when they transfer money to their mobile wallets.
The bad news is that Kenyans will now be charged fees when moving money from their bank account to their mobile money wallet. The fees will start to apply on January 1, 2023.
Beginning tomorrow, January 1, Kenyans will be required to pay for this service. So, if you want to send money to Mpesa for nothing, send it before today at midnight. The cost of electricity is also anticipated to increase starting in January.
