Bomet Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok had petitioned the high court to to issue conservatory orders against sections that barred tea farmers from selling their tea directly to international markets.
Barchok on a statement , expressed his joy following the ruling by the high court promising to push a deal he had negotiated with the Iranian government to have Bomet tea directly to Iran.
"We celebrate this day in the wake of sweeping reforms in the tea sector, all aimed at turning around the venture to benefit the farmer....I am glad to report to you that the High Court, in a landmark ruling dated 18th May 2021, has since ruled in favour of the farmers, who can now take advantage of our negotiation with the Iranian government to have our tea sold directly to their markets." Barchok said in a statement.
Following the ruling, Barchok has revealed that he will now move to finalize deal with the Iranian government which will allow factories in the county to sell their tea directly at better prices translating to better pay for the farmers.
