Kisumu county is one of the forty seven counties in Kenya which came into being by the enactment of the 2010 constitution. Since its inception the county has progressively made great strides in development especially in the last three years under the leadership of governor Prof.Peter Anyang Nyong'o.
The county has witnessed the expansion of roads within the central business district and the refurbishment and rehabilitation of most recreational facilities like Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground,Oile park and Taifa park among others.
It's also evident that the county leadership is focused in expanding the Urban centre within the county with the recent upgrade of Katito Ahero and Maseno into towns. This is important as means of taking services close to the people.
The most important aspect undertaking by the county government is the development of policies which have attracted private investors especially the small and mediium enterprises to venture into productive businesses.
One outstanding venture is the K-City business park. This is a well planned and developed park with modern stalls housing various entities from eateries, clothing shops, banking agencies, modern saloons and barbershops among others.
The ground where this complex sits belong to the Postal corporation of Kenya. This ground has been unproductive for decades until this time when a group of entrepreneurs came together to construct the park which is now providing employment opportunities to young middle level graduates.
Through a lease arrangement with the Postal Corporation with the private investors, the corporation is generating income from an asset which has been idle doe decades.
Since the business park is well planned with a formal business layout, the county government has greatly benefited from increased revenues from the structured establishments.
The success of this business park can also be attributed to the confidence of traders due to assured security. This is possible because of the closeness of the park to Kisumu central police Station.
It is the desire of Kisumu county business fraternity to see many more private business ventures come up across the county in order to alleviate the biting unemployment and generation revenue for the country's economic growth.
