EPRA Defends Itself Over Fuel Price Hike, Says Formula is to Blame

The energy regulator Authority has come out to defend itself regarding the sudden hike in fuel price that has caused a lot of confusion among the public, most especially at this time when we are in the middle of a pandemic amid a third wave.

According to reports by Nation Africa, This has put a lot of pressure on Epra, an organization that is lawfully required to declare openly monthly fuel price reviews, with demands to invalidate the shocking increments and to suspend the new prices. 

From the uproar from the public, the Epra has come out to defend itself saying that that the pricing is determined by a formula enshrined in law in 2010, adding that Kenya imports refined petroleum products for local use.

also added that importation of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene into Kenya is undertaken through the Open Tender System (OTS) under Legal Notice No.24 of 2012.
